INDUCTION WORKSHOP FOR THE NEWLY APPOINTED NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLAINTS COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Environment secretary and Forestry Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo on September 15, 2021 opened an induction workshop for the newly appointed National Environmental Complaints Committee Members in Mombasa.

The PS urged the members to familiarize themselves with biodiversity and environmental management laws so that they may guide policy on public interest litigation.

Key among the areas of interest that the members were inducted included; Governance and ethics, Public Finance Management Act and Partnerships and Resource Mobilization.

The NECC facilitates access to environmental justice to the public by providing a forum for expeditious and affordable environmental conflict resolution and contribute to Environmental policy development.

He was accompanied by other PSs Prof. Fred Sigor State Department of wildlife, Prof. Hamadi Boga State Department of Agricultural Rsearch, the NECC chairman Mr. Patrick L. Nyaberi, Committee members Ms.Isabella Masinde, Mr.JamesTopoika, Ms.Martha Nyangwaria, Ms. Jane Masai Chettoo, Motari Matunda- AG representative and Dr John Chumo- secretary to the board.
