CS Hon. Soipan Tuya, the powerhouse behind the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, took the reins of this year’s World Wetlands Day at the enchanting Lake Narasha (Timboroa Dam) in the heart of Uasin Gishu County. With her, the virtuoso of environmental strategies, PS Eng. Festus K. Ng’eno, added his brilliance to the occasion.
The stage was graced by a constellation of government luminaries, including the phenomenal Ms. Mary Njogu, the NECC Committee Secretary, the trailblazing Hon. Julius Rutto representing Kesses Constituency, the eminent Hon. Musa Sirma from Eldama Ravine Constituency, the visionary Dr. John Chumo, CEO of Mama Doing Good, and the distinguished members of the National Assembly Committee on Environment, Forestry, and Mining.
The maestros behind this grand symphony were none other than NEMA, with Uasin Gishu County’s leadership, under the sagacious Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii and the charismatic Senator Jackson Mandago, hosting this ecological gala.
Wetlands took center stage, woven into the fabric of the 10-year National Landscapes and Ecosystems Restoration Strategy, a cornerstone of the Government’s monumental 15-billion National Tree Growing Programme. The government’s commitment to wetland restoration echoed through the air, resonating with their colossal ecological benefits, pivotal for livelihoods, and steering Kenya’s socioeconomic metamorphosis.
A pinnacle moment unfolded with PS Ng’eno, Governor Dr. Bii, Ms. Njogu (NECC), and the CDE of NEMA Uasin Gishu County jointly presenting over 450 certificates and trophies to conservationist groups, honoring their extraordinary endeavors in wetlands conservation. It wasn’t just an event; it was a celebration of environmental brilliance, a tapestry woven with passion for our planet’s well-being.
