The National Environmental Complaints Committee (NECC) is the body charged with the task of investigating complaints or allegations regarding the condition of the environment in Kenya and suspected cases of environmental degradation. The NECC also undertakes public interest litigation on behalf of the citizens in environmental matters.It is composed of seven members appointed by the Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Natural Resources headed by a chairman who is a person qualified to be appointed as a judge of the Environment and Land Court of Kenya and members nominated by the Attorney-General, the Council of Governors (Secretary), the Law Society of Kenya and the business community. There are two other members who are appointed by the Cabinet Secretary for their role in environmental management.
