The World Ozone Day, held annually in September 16, celebrations were held at John Michuki Memorial Park, bringing together key stakeholders to raise awareness on the need to protect the ozone layer and advance climate action.

The NECC team, led by Administrator Mr. Rodney Omari, joined Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Dr. Deborah Barasa, in marking the occasion under the global theme “40 Years of the Vienna Convention: From Science to Global Action.”

This year’s theme highlights four decades of progress since the adoption of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, a landmark international treaty that laid the foundation for the Montreal Protocol—widely regarded as one of the most successful environmental agreements. The celebration underscored the importance of continued scientific research, international cooperation, and innovative policies in phasing out ozone-depleting substances, safeguarding the atmosphere, and mitigating climate change.

Through speeches, exhibitions, and interactive sessions, participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen global and local efforts to preserve the ozone layer, promote the use of environmentally friendly technologies, and ensure a healthier planet for future generations.
